Chlorine Dioxide Technology

Chlorine dioxide is ideal for industrial waters and as a disinfectant in drinking water.
Advantages of chlorine dioxide
  • The bactericidal efficiency of chlorine dioxide is independent of pH values between 4 and 10
  • Chlorine dioxide is superior to chlorine in the destruction of spores, bacteria's, viruses and other pathogen organisms on lower dosage
  • The required contact time for ClO2 is lower
  • Chlorine dioxide has better solubility
  • Chlorine dioxide does not react with NH3 or NH4+
  • It destroys THM precursors and increases coagulation
  • Chlorine dioxide is also effective at controlling algae, slime and biofilm found in cooling water, process water, and paper mill whitewater systems
  • In potable water applications it is a proven technology for improving taste and removing odors, algae, decaying vegetation, odor-producing phenolic compounds, mercaptans, and disubstituted organic sulfides
Chlorine dioxide can be safely generated by three different technologies
Generation I: Chlorine-Drewchlor
Cl2 + H2O
HOCl + HCl
2NaClO2 + HOCl + HCl
2ClO2 + H2O + 2NaCl
Net:
2NaClO2 + Cl2
2ClO2 + 2NaCl
Generation II: Acid - Sodium Hypochlorite - Drewchlor
NaOCl + HCl
HOCl + NaCl
NaClO2 + HOCl + HCl
2ClO2 + H2O + 2NaCl
Net:
2NaClO2 + NaOCl + 2HCl
2ClO2 + H2O + 3NaCl
Generation III: Acid - Drewchlor
5NaClO2 + 4HCl
4ClO2 + 5NaCl + 2H2O
